Every year worldwide there are 50–100 million cases of dengue diagnose and out of that more than 500,000 cases are of dengue hemorrhagic fever.
Symptoms of dengue hemorrhagic fever include high fever, headaches, nausea, bleeding under the skin, frequent vomiting and abdominal pain.
Platelets are blood clot cells whose function is to stop bleeding by clumping and clotting blood vessel injuries. The normal range for platelets is 150,000 to 450,000 per cubic millimeter. Low platelet count is thrombocytopenia and high is called thrombocytosis.
In dengue hemorrhagic fever virus binds to platelets of human blood. Binding takes place in the presence of virus-specific antibody and it destroys platelets. This is one of the major causes of low platelet count in dengue fever. This correlation between dengue and platelets shows that low platelet count like below 50,000 per micro liter in dengue fever may lead to life-threatening condition.

A physical examination done by doctor which may include observing enlarged liver, low blood pressure and rash on body. Red eyes and throat, swollen glands, weak and rapid pulse. Blood tests to determine platelet count.
Dengue hemorrhagic fever may cause these complications like brain disease, liver damage, residual brain damage and seizures shock.

Emergency treatments in dengue and platelets when become very low then go for prescription medicine to manage pain. Other solutions are electrolyte therapy for imbalance in electrolytes, blood transfusions when platelets are very low. Monitoring of blood pressure, oxygen therapy for low blood oxygen and observation in ICU.
